NPORS stands for the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme. It is an established, accredited training scheme in the UK. NPORS are partnered with the CSCS card scheme to identify the training level and skill level of individual workers.
Who should attend?
Traditional NPORS card
- Novice – No pre-requisites
- Experienced Workers – 18-months verifiable experience and/or 6 months consistent daily experience in the category
For those with limited or no experience, we ask for an Initial Assessment to be completed to identify how many days of training will be required. Experienced operators can attend the 1-day Experienced Worker Assessment (Test Only).
NPORS / CSCS Card
In addition to the above, delegates must have proof of having passed the CITB Health, Safety & Environmental touch test within the two years prior.
A good understanding of spoken and written English is required for all NPORS courses.
Assessment
NPORS Theory assessment is made up of open and multiple-choice questions and a Practical assessment.
What is covered?
NPORS courses cover:
- A basic understanding of the industry, dangers and responsibilities of a plant operator.
- A working knowledge of the manufacturer’s handbook for the specific machine for the course.
- Learning to locate and identify the major components of the machine and explain their functions.
- Being able to locate and identify steering, driving and braking controls and explain the relevant functions.
- Identifying, maintaining and wearing appropriate PPE.
- Conducting pre-operational and safety checks in line with the manufacturer and current legislation.
- Safely mounting and dismounting the machine.
- Starting, stopping and safely moving the machine off.
- Configuring the machine for movement and manoeuvring ready to carry out tasks.
- Carrying out tasks appropriate for the machine.
- Carrying out all end of shift and shut down procedures.
